Last weekend we wrapped up a big fundraiser for my school, and part of it was a karate demonstration/performance. For one piece, a group of us worked up the below synchronized musical kata (simulated battle), choreographed by my friend as a tribute to the late poet Maya Angelou. In it, our moves and James Newton Howard’s haunting but alluring music accompany the poet as she recites her poem, “Life Doesn’t Frighten Me.”
We didn’t get much rehearsal time at all – probably 2 hours between all of us and not once all together – so I was pleased with the outcome!
Thanks for watching.
